10724859_615354808575660_1420528209_nI am not sure everyone is as fortunate as people like myself who have a place in town where they can always go to when there is not a hot meal waiting at home after a very long, hard day.  Sure, there is probably a diner, but rarely will you find a place that is consistently good, friendly and close enough that you can walk home if you needed to after 2 beers.

The Cloverleaf Tavern has been my favorite as far back as I can remember.  And the amazing thing is that they have kept up with the times.  When they opened the day after prohibition in 1933 that was enough.  How hard is it to pour beer and gin cocktails?  And back in the previous century when chain and franchise places were popping up all over every single highway, The Cloverleaf Tavern still held their own serving the best steaks, great burgers and delicious appetizers.

This year, they have been knighted with a very special honor, #1 Craft Beer Tavern in the entire Northeast for the 2nd time in a row.  Wow.  Now, as any one knows, that is not enough to keep the place packed.  Most sensible people never drink on an empty stomach, so there food too, and not just lame bar food like previously frozen pizza or reheated appetizers, but a real menu that will attract anyone of any age and cater to everyone in any family.

What I especially love is their weekly specials menu posted in advance.  There is always a new sumptuous burger, but unlike most dining places, the specials are not limited to daily, but weekly, so you can go whenever you want during that week and get something new, exciting and delicious.

The example above is Wisconsin cheddar cheese curds deep fried with sriracha mayo dipping sauce, a local craft beer from tap, and the “Fifty-Fifty” burger which 50% fresh ground beef blended with 50% fresh ground bacon. Topped with pepper-jack cheese, fresh made guacamole and Applewood smoked bacon and served on a toasted pretzel roll.  Wow.  Is that insanity?  Who would ever think to ground up bacon and put it into the ground beef of a quality burger?  The Cloverleaf thought of it, and its one of the most delicious burgers I’ve ever had.  Its not overwhelming, but just plain delicious, and I can’t imagine why no one ever thought of this sooner.

And, pictured below is the Guinness infused bratwurst with house made kraut and homemade potato chips served with Angry Orchard Hard Cider.
