Takeout food can be just as cheap as preparing it yourself. Any Chinese combo dish for $7 will feed two. You get an egg roll, huge portion of rice and a nice portion of beef & broccoli or chicken & broccoli or whatever. $3.50 is a small amount to pay for dinner per person when its this hot out, and you don’t have to use the stove, oven, propane or charcoal grill — simple math will show you that fuel costs alone are significant enough to justify eating out. So don’t frown upon takeout food. Chinese, Japanese, local diner, or otherwise… just be sure what you order is healthy (or mostly) and remember, the time and money you would have spent on fuel, shopping, produce and time might just easily justify a takeout meal on a day too hot to cook.
